PERLAKUAN PANAS PADA BAJA KARBON: EFEK MEDIA PENDINGINAN TERHADAP SIFAT MEKANIK DAN STRUKTUR MIKRO

Dalam paper ini, proses modifikasi sederhana diperkenalkan untuk menyelidiki efek media pendinginan terhadap struktur mikro dan sifat mekanik dari baja karbon rendah. Lembaran baja karbon rendah dibentuk dan dipanaskan dalam oven pada suhu 900 oC selama 30 menit dan didinginkan meggunakan media pendinginan yang berbeda, yaitu: air (quenching), udara (normalizing) dan pendinginan dalam oven (annealing). Sifat mekanik, meliputi kekuatan tarik, kekuatan impak dan struktur mikro ditentukan menggunakan mesin ultimate tensile machine dan impact machine. Mikrostruktur baja juga telah diselidiki dan dianalisa menggunakan microscope metallurgy dan telah dibandingkan dengan bahan baku baja. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekerasan baja menggunakan media air lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan media lain yang dipelajari; dikarenakan deformasi struktur ferrit menjadi pearlit. Inter–critical sampel uji annealing (AN) pada suhu 900 °C menunjukkan ferit–martensit fase ganda dan menunjukkan sifat mekanik yang sangat baik bila dibandingkan dengan sampel uji (NO), (QE) dan tanpa perlakuan (RM). Hasil ini bermanfaat untuk peneliti dan industriawan sebagai dasar untuk pengembangan sifat baja menjadi produk industri yang diinginkan.
