Provinsi Sumatera Selatan sejak berabad yang lalu dikenal juga dengan sebutan Bumi Sriwijaya, pada abad ke-7 hingga abad ke-12 Masehi wilayah ini merupakan pusat kerajaan Sriwijaya yang juga terkenal dengan kerajaan maritim terbesar dan terkuat di Nusantara. Provinsi Sumatera Selatan banyak memiliki tujuan wisata yang menarik untuk dikunjungi seperti Sungai Musi, Jembatan Ampera, Pulau Kemaro, Danau Ranau, Kota Pagaralam dan lain-lain. Melihat pesatnya perkembangan dunia pariwisata yang tidak selaras dengan informasi yang tersedia, karena media dan informasi objek wisata yang disebarkan dirasa masih kurang terutama dalam hal pemetaan objek wisatanya dengan pendekatan teknologi diharapkan informasi mengenai pemetaan objek wisata yang berada di Provinsi Sumatera Selatan ini bisa tersampaikan dengan mudah kepada masyarakat luas terutama wisatawan. Hal ini, dapat direalisasikan dengan membangun suatu aplikasi mobile GIS (Geografis Information System) pemetaan Objek wisata Provinsi Sumatera Selatan sehingga dapat diakses melalui website dan mobile phone dengan menggunakan sistem operasi android, iOS dan windows.
