ROLE OF FAMILY COMMUNICATION PATERN TO FAMILY RESILIENCE DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

Background: The Covid-19 pandemic that has lasted until now has changed family life. The government also provides regulations to carry out social restrictions by carrying out various activities from home. More interaction during covid actually raises new problems such as increasing family conflicts which reduce family resilience.

Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship between family communication pattern with family resilience in the covid-19 pandemic.

Method: This study uses a correlational quantitative research design

Instrument: Data were collected using the Revised Family Communication Patterns (RFCP) Scale to determine how parents and childrens communicate and interact within the family and the Walsh Family Resilience Questionnaire (WRFQ) Scale to measure the level of family resilience.

Population and sample: population on this research are men and women who are married and have children aged at least 5 years in Jabodetabek. The technique sampling used was Accidental Sampling. Respondent on this research is 130.

Analysis: The data analysis used was Spearman correlation

Result: The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship (0.000 < 0.05) between family communication patterns and family resilience with a correlation coefficient (r) 0,574. There is a significant correlation (0.000 < 0.05) of conversation orientation and family resilience.

Implication: This research is expected to provide suggestions for family, counsellor and streakholder to improve family resilience by developing family communication patterns.
