FANATICISM, CONFORMITY, AND VERBAL AGGRESSION AMONG ADOLESCENTS WHO ARE KPOP IDOL FANS ACTIVELY USE TWITTER

Abstract


Background:

One phenomenon that quite often occurs among K-pop fans on social media is verbal aggression, The acts will start by one fan, will rapidly follow by the others. From the preliminary study occurs that the drive to conduct verbal abuse to others is deliberately carried out by K-pop fans to protect their idols from attacks by parties who are considered detrimental to their idols.

Research purpose:

The purpose of this research is to look at the relationship between fanaticism and conformity with verbal aggression among adolescents who are K-pop idol fans actively use twitter.

 

Methodology:

This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method.

 

Instrument: In this study the researchers were using adaptation of fanaticism scale, conformity scale, and verbal aggression scale.

 

Population and sample: Researcher used the accidental technique collecting data from 4360 participants with criteria adolescent who are K-pop idol fans aged 18 until 22 years old and actively using twitter as a media to get an information about their favourite idol.

 

Analysis: The data were analyzed using Spearman Correlations technique

 

Results: The results of this study indicate that adolescents who are K-pop idol fans with high fanaticism and conformity will have a high verbal aggression in their twitter account.

 

Implication or advantage of research: Future researchers are expected to be able to conduct research that relates verbal aggression behavior to such as: personality, social environment, parenting patterns, self-control, intelligence level, and self-identity.
