Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan tingkat kesiapan mahasiswa dalam mengikuti sertifikasi profesi pada bidang pengelasan SMAW untuk kriteria pengelasan pipa pada posisi PA dan HLO45 dimana sampel yang diamati berasal dari hasil pengelasan 8 mahasiswa semester 6 Program Studi Teknik Mesin konsentrasi Teknik Produksi dan dari hasil penelitian ini didapat persentase mahasiswa yang kompeten pada posisi pengelasan tersebut dengan standar pengelasan TWI, dalam bentuk visual test, dan bending test. Hasil yang didapatkan menunjukkan bahwa pada posisi pengelasan PA hanya 25% yang diterima sedangkan pada posisi pengelasan HLO45 yang sebenarnya lebih sulit secara teori 75% diterima.
