Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of effective communication in building bonding relationships between working mothers and their children. The background of this research is based on the limited time spent together by working mothers, which may affect the quality of emotional relationships with their children. This study employed a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with 15 working mothers as research informants. The focus of this study includes three main aspects: children’s behaviors that indicate a lack of bonding with working mothers, communication barriers caused by limited time at home, and communication strategies used by working mothers to maintain bonding with their children. The findings show that children who experience weak bonding with working mothers tend to display withdrawn behavior, limited emotional expression, and low initiative in communication. Communication barriers identified include limited face-to-face interaction, physical and emotional fatigue experienced by mothers, and differences in daily activity patterns between mothers and children. To overcome these barriers, working mothers implement effective communication strategies such as maintaining openness, expressing empathy, prioritizing communication quality over quantity, and utilizing digital communication media. This study concludes that effective communication plays a crucial role in maintaining and strengthening bonding relationships between working mothers and their children despite time constraints
