Kekerasan seksual yang menimpa anak-anak semakin tahun semakin meningkat jumlahnya. Baik sebagai korban maupun pelaku, anak dianggap sebagai makhluk paling lemah yang belum dapat mempertahankan diri. Data dari
Komisi Perlindungan anak menyebut, di tahun 2016, peningkatan kekerasan seksual terhadap anak mencapai angka 100 persen dibanding tahun sebelumnya. Tingginya angka kekerasan seksual terhadap anak karena cara asuh yang salah. Berangkat dari keprihatinan itulah, Universitas Mercu Buana ikut terpanggil untuk melakukan pengenalan diri terhadap anak sebagai bagian dari “pendidikan seksual” sejak dini. Pengenalan diri ini dilakukan agar anak-anak mengetahui batasan-batasan tentang tubuhnya dan mampu melindunginya. Anak juga dilatih untuk berani menolak atau melaporkan bila menemukan kejadian yang tidak mengenakan mereka. Mengingat sifat anak-anak yang masih senang bermain, maka pendidikan seksual melalui pengenalan diri ini dilakukan dengan permainan. Ular tangga menjadi sarana yang tepat menjadi model program ini, karena anak-anak bisa terlibat secara langsung. Ular tangga “AKU ANAK BERANI” dengan biduk pemain anak-anak ini, mengajarkan himbauan, larangan maupun perintah, atas apa yang boleh dan tidak boleh dilakukan. Permainan ini, merangsang daya pikir anak-anak sehingga saat menghadapi situasi yang tidak mengenakan dapat mengambil tindakan, dengan turun ular atau naik tangga sesuai dengan situasi dan kondisi yang dihadapi.
