Abstract

Objectives: This study is to examine how traditional markets globally are navigating digital transformation and identify conceptual trajectories relevant for Indonesia’s context.
Methodology: The study employs an integrated mixed analytical approach combining bibliometric analysis with probabilistic topic modelling. Bibliometric techniques are used to map publication structures, intellectual relationships, and thematic evolution, while Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), followed by interpretive topic labelling, is used to identify latent semantic patterns within the corpus. A total of 84 Scopus-indexed publications were analyzed using Bibliometrix and topic modelling in Python to map intellectual structures, thematic evolution, and knowledge clusters within the literature.
Finding: The findings indicate an increasing presence of themes associated with artificial intelligence, governance, sustainability, and consumer analytics within the analysed literature. Rather than demonstrating a uniform transition toward intelligent market systems, these patterns suggest an emerging diversification of research beyond basic technology adoption toward broader institutional, behavioural, and data-driven concerns. The analysis also shows that digital transformation in traditional markets remains constrained by gaps in digital literacy, uneven infrastructure, and the need for inclusive policy frameworks.
Conclusion: The study concludes that successful modernization requires aligning technological innovation with social inclusion, particularly by strengthening digital literacy, expanding equitable infrastructure, and embedding ethical AI governance. These insights provide a foundation for building sustainable and socially resilient pathways for the future of traditional market digitalization.
