Abstrak

The present study investigated the mediating role of self-regulated learning (SRL) in the relationship between self-leadership and social media addiction tendencies among university students. Partial least squares structural equation modelling revealed that, in a cross-sectional survey of 146 Indonesian undergraduates, self-leadership was positively related to social media addiction and to SRL, while SRL was negatively related to social media addiction. SRL was a negative mediator and had an opposite sign to the direct effect, indicating competitive mediation. The model explained 8.5% of the variance of social media addiction and the indirect effect was sensitive to one outlier respondent. Thus, self-leadership might be related to higher digital engagement and higher learning regulation. These preliminary correlational data imply that self-regulation during performance is a topic for additional longitudinal and experimental investigation.
